Fr. Joseph S. McMahon

Pastor

Fr. McMahon, a graduate of Mt. Angel Seminary, completed his theology studies at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Portland on June 29, 1968.

He came to Our Lady of the Lake parish in 1998 after serving as pastor of Blessed Sacrament (Portland) and St. Henry (Gresham) parishes.

 

A former director of the Archdiocesan Office for Worship, he is a member of the Archdiocesan Liturgy Commission and the Archdiocesan Presbyteral (Priests’) Council.

 

 

 

Fr. Andrew Thomas

Associate Pastor

 

Fr. Andrew, or Fr. T, was born and raised in a small community outside of Pittsburgh, PA. After high school, he decided to join the seminary for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He completed his undergraduate work by receiving a degree from Duquesne University in 1998. From there, he took an invitation from his sister and family to move westward to Oregon where he taught for two years in a Catholic School.  

He re-entered Mt. Angel Seminary in 2000 where he completed Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 2005, and was most recently assigned to Sacred Heart Parish in Medford, OR for two years.  

He came to Our Lady of the Lake in July of 2007, and is currently on the Continuing Education Board for the Archdiocese.

 

Pastoral Associate

Sr. Marilyn Barry

 

Sister Marilyn Barry was born and grew up in Danbury, Iowa. Following high school graduation she joined the Clinton, Iowa Franciscans and taught elementary education for 25 years. In 1983 she went to Seattle University and received a degree in Pastoral Ministry. Following years in Iowa, California, Missouri and South Carolina she migrated to Lake Oswego. Her responsibilities include participating or coordinating in, Adult Education, Liturgical Ministers, Ministry to the Sick, RCIA process, Returning Catholics Ministry, and WINGS. Last year at Mercy Center in Burlingame, CA, she completed a three year certificate program in Spiritual Direction.

 

Joan Codd

School Principal

 

The principal is the religious and instructional leader of the school, and is involved in other areas, from greeting the children in the morning to school finance. She received a graduate degree from Idaho State University. Additional graduate work was completed at Gonzaga University, Washington State University, and Portland State University. Educational administration was the focus of her education, and Catholic education has been her focus professionally. She began her career as a dean in the Student Life Office at Gonzaga. Later, she moved to Portland with her family and took a position at St. Mary’s Academy where she directed their counseling center and taught in the religion department. In 1992, she became principal at Our Lady of the Lake School.

 

Lawrence Latuszek

Business Manager

Lawrence Latuszek is originally from northern Michigan. He attended Catholic schools until serving in the Army for 4 years. Larry is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting.

His 30 years of corporate accounting experience were with International Harvester and ConAgra Foods. He held positions as senior systems analyst, accounting manager, controller, and regional finance manager. 

As Business Manager at OLL, Larry is responsible for all aspects of parish accounting and facilities management.

Larry has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren.
 

Sister Janina Kokorowski, SNJM

Director of Religious Education

 

Sr. Janina’s position embraces Religious Education from pre-school through adulthood including sacramental preparation for children. She has served several years as a first grade teacher, ten years as an elementary school principal, and two decades as a Director of Religious Education in the Archdioceses of Portland and Seattle. Sr. Janina holds a Masters degree in Education from Portland State University and a degree in theology from the Franciscan School of Theology at Berkeley, CA. She did post graduate work at Fordham University in New York and at the School of Applied Theology in Oakland.

 

Tom Carawan

Parish Music Director

 

Tom Carawan is from North Carolina. His degrees include: a Bachelor of Music in Education and Masters of Music in performance from Western Kentucky University, and an M.A. in theology with a concentration in liturgical studies from the University of Notre Dame.

 

He has been Director of Music and Liturgy in campus ministry at the University of Portland, and Coordinator of Music and Liturgy at Mount Angel Seminary.

 

At OLL, he directs the Choir and Liturgical Ensemble, leads the Music Preparation Group, and trains Cantors. Tom coordinates the Seasonal Managers of the Liturgy Preparation team.

Deacon Charles Corey

Deacon Charlie is a graduate of Boston College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics.  Deacon Charlie and his wife Beth have been members of the parish since 1986. In 2004, Deacon Charlie earned a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from the University of Portland.  In September 2006 he retired from the business world where he had held a variety of positions in the high tech industry.  In December 2006, he was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Archbishiop Vlazny and appointed to Our Lady of the Lake Parish as a non-paid member of the staff.

Deacon Charlie is involved in social ministry and works with the Administrative Council and Pastoral Councils in their planning functions.   

 

Deacon David Partlow

 

Deacon Partlow is a graduate of the University of Dayton, Ohio, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He also has a Master of Theological Studies degree from the University of Dallas, Texas. Deacon Partlow is retired from the position of Director of Planned Giving at Mt. Angel Abbey and Seminary. He was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Archbishop Vlazny in November 2002 and was appointed to Our Lady of the Lake Parish to serve as a volunteer member of the parish staff in January 2003.

 

Lynne Huston

Parish Accompanist

 

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Lynne began her career in Pastoral Music in 1970. She received her Bachelors Degree in Music from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She established her music studio in 1980 and has taught piano, performed in the piano/marimba duo Nouveau Duo, and recorded three albums. In 2005 she studied at the first SummerSong for Pastoral Musicians at the University of Notre Dame.

As organist and pianist for the parish, Lynne accompanies Sunday and Holy Day liturgies, the Choir and Youth Musicians, and rehearses with Cantors. She participates in the Music Preparation Group and is on the Liturgy Team.

 

Diana Hughes

Administrative Assistant

 

As administrative assistant to the Pastoral Associate, Director of Religious Education, and Parish Music Director, Diana's responsibilities are many and varied.  She was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is a graduate of Cardinal Stritch College where she received a BA degree in English and Mathematics.  Diana worked for 36 years in the area of Management Information Systems, the last 20 at Bank of America in Walnut Creek, California.  Her experience ranges from computer programming and systems analysis to systems and project management.  Diana retired from Corporate America and moved to Oregon two years ago.

Kenneth A. Myers

Sacristan

 

Ken prepares Mass for weekends, funerals, weddings, baptisms, and Holy Days. His other duties include coffee and donuts setup and weekend janitorial. Ken has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s University and a MSA Administration from Pepperdine University. His employment history includes medical research, Executive Tax Service, and business consultant. Ken and Andrea have been married for 37 years and have two grown children and two grandchildren.

 

Sue Swatzlander

Administrative Assistant
Sue began working as a part time receptionist at Our Lady of the Lake in November 2005.  She mainly works on special projects assisting the Business Manager.  Prior to her career change, she was a buyer and regional merchandise manager for the Designer Apparel division in Nordstrom. A native of Southern California, Sue has lived in Oregon since 1982.  She has an adorable Jack Russell terrier, MacBeth.  Sue enjoys giving dinner parties, gardening, reading, traveling and spending time with family. 

 

Melissa Hawkins

Bookkeeper

The bookkeeping position provides bookkeeping and related administrative support services to both the Parish and School. Melissa held this position previously at OLL from 1994-2000. She rejoined the Parish in March of 2005. Melissa has a BA in Psychology from California State in LA, and a Masters in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas. She and her husband, Stephen, have three grown daughters who all graduated from Our Lady of the Lake School.
