Fr. Joseph S. McMahon
Pastor
Fr. McMahon, a graduate of Mt. Angel Seminary,
completed his theology studies at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium,
and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Portland on June 29, 1968.
He came to Our Lady of the Lake parish in 1998 after
serving as pastor of Blessed Sacrament (Portland) and St. Henry (Gresham)
parishes.
A former director of the Archdiocesan Office for Worship,
he is a member of the Archdiocesan Liturgy Commission and the Archdiocesan
Presbyteral (Priests’) Council.

Fr. Luan Nguyen
Associate Pastor
Fr. Luan Nguyen was born in
1968 in Saigon, Vietnam. He is one of 11 children of Had Van Nguyen and Tue Thi
Nguyen. Luan attended elementary and secondary schools in Saigon, graduating
with a secondary degree in 1986. He attended Portland State University
graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Fr.
Nguyen entered Mount Angel Seminary in the fall of 2000. There he earned a
Master of Divinity degree in 2008.
His
ministry training has included experiences at St. Joseph Parish in Salem
assisting with religious education, pastoral ministry at the MacLaren Youth
Correctional Facility in Woodburn, clinical pastoral education at St. Peter
Providence Hospital in Olympia, WA, and a pastoral training year at St. John the
Baptist Parish in Milwaukie. He was ordained a transitional deacon by Archbishop
Vlazny in May 2007. He spent his diaconate year assisting weekends at Queen of
Peace Parish in Salem.

Joan Codd
School
Principal
The principal is the religious and instructional leader of
the school, and is involved in other areas, from greeting the children in the
morning to school finance. She received a graduate degree from Idaho State
University. Additional graduate work was completed at Gonzaga University,
Washington State University, and Portland State University. Educational
administration was the focus of her education, and Catholic education has been
her focus professionally. She began her career as a dean in the Student Life
Office at Gonzaga. Later, she moved to Portland with her family and took a
position at St. Mary’s Academy where she directed their counseling center and
taught in the religion department. In 1992, she became principal at Our Lady of
the Lake School.

Deacon
Charles Corey Deacon Charlie is a graduate of
Boston College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics.
Deacon Charlie and his wife Beth have been members of the parish since 1986. In
2004, Deacon Charlie earned a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from the
University of Portland. In September 2006 he retired from the business world
where he had held a variety of positions in the high tech industry. In December
2006, he was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Archbishiop Vlazny and
appointed to Our Lady of the Lake Parish as a non-paid member of the staff. Deacon Charlie is involved in social ministry
and works with the Administrative Council and Pastoral Councils in their
planning functions.

Deacon David Partlow
Deacon Partlow is a graduate of the University of Dayton, Ohio, where he
received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He also has a
Master of Theological Studies degree from the University of Dallas, Texas.
Deacon Partlow is retired from the position of Director of Planned Giving at Mt.
Angel Abbey and Seminary. He was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by
Archbishop Vlazny in November 2002 and was appointed to Our Lady of the Lake
Parish to serve as a volunteer member of the parish staff in January 2003.

Lawrence Latuszek
Business Manager
Lawrence Latuszek is originally from northern Michigan. He
attended Catholic schools until serving in the Army for 4 years. Larry is a
graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, where he received a Bachelor
of Business Administration in accounting. His 30 years of corporate accounting experience were with
International Harvester and ConAgra Foods. He held positions as senior systems
analyst, accounting manager, controller, and regional finance manager. As Business Manager at OLL, Larry is responsible for all
aspects of parish accounting and facilities management.
Larry has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren.

Kim Calkins
Building in Faith Development
Director
Kim Calkins is originally from Connecticut, but lived in 12
states before settling in Oregon. She has over 30 years of business development
experience including corporate and non-profit development. She has a BA in
Communications and a Masters in Business Administration. She is a CFRE and a
member of WVDO. As Development Director for the Parish and School, Kim is
responsible for the Building in Faith Capital Campaign, planned giving,
foundation and corporate grants, annual offertory campaign, and advises on the
school endowment. Kim has two children, Anna and Sean, both in Catholic
School. Her husband, Dan, is a physics teacher at Jesuit High School.

Sister Janina
Kokorowski, SNJM
Director of
Religious Education
Sr. Janina’s position embraces Religious Education from
pre-school through adulthood including sacramental preparation for children. She
has served several years as a first grade teacher, ten years as an elementary
school principal, and two decades as a Director of Religious Education in the
Archdioceses of Portland and Seattle. Sr. Janina holds a Masters degree in
Education from Portland State University and a degree in theology from the
Franciscan School of Theology at Berkeley, CA. She did post graduate work at
Fordham University in New York and at the School of Applied Theology in Oakland.

Tom Carawan
Liturgy and Music
Director
Tom Carawan is from North Carolina. His degrees include: a Bachelor of Music in
Education and Masters of Music in performance from Western Kentucky University,
and an M.A. in theology with a concentration in liturgical studies from the
University of Notre Dame. He
has been Director of Music and Liturgy in campus ministry at the University of
Portland, and Coordinator of Music and Liturgy at Mount Angel Seminary. He is on
the Editorial Board for Oregon Catholic Press for the Music Issue and
Breaking Bread programs for parish music.
At
OLL, as he directs the Choir and Youth Musicians, leads the Music Preparation
Group to select music for liturgies, and trains Cantors. Tom coordinates the
Liturgy Preparation team and assists in training and scheduling liturgical
ministers.

Lynne Huston
Parish Accompanist
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Lynne began her career in Pastoral Music in
1970. She received her Bachelors Degree in Music from Lewis and Clark College in
Portland, Oregon. She established her music studio in 1980 and has taught piano,
performed in the piano/marimba duo Nouveau Duo, and recorded three albums. In
2005 she studied at the first SummerSong for Pastoral Musicians at the
University of Notre Dame.
As organist and pianist for the parish, Lynne accompanies Sunday and Holy Day
liturgies, the Choir and Youth Musicians, and rehearses with Cantors. She
participates in the Music Preparation Group and is on the Liturgy Team.

Christine Shepard
Office ManagerChristine Shepard is the Communications Specialist/Office Manager. Chris
brings excellent experience with her computer and graphics background. Chris has
worked as Reprographics Manager for the City of Eugene, and has experience
managing offices for the Commission on Children & Families for Lane County, and
for Crestec, Inc. in Portland. Most recently, Chris worked as a broker in
residential real estate in the Eugene area. She enjoys gardening and
bargain-hunting in second-hand and antique stores.

Robin Hudson
Administrative Assistant
Robin recently joined the
staff after returning to the Portland area from a twelve-year hiatus east of
the Mississippi. A graduate of Portland State University, she received a
Bachelor of Science degree in English and Advertising/ Communications.
Robin’s avocation is as a
florist and antique dealer/collector. She belongs to the OLL choir and
volunteers with the Art and Environment Committee. She and her husband Hugh
share seven grown children and twelve grandchildren.

Melissa Hawkins
Bookkeeper
The bookkeeping position provides
bookkeeping and related administrative support services to both the Parish and
School. Melissa held this position previously at OLL from 1994-2000. She
rejoined the Parish in March of 2005. Melissa has a BA in Psychology from
California State in LA, and a
Masters in Theological Studies from the University of Dallas. She and her husband, Stephen, have three grown
daughters who all graduated from Our Lady of the Lake School.
