|
Introduction
The Pastoral Care Ministry serves the needs of the sick, chronically ill, and elderly within our parish. Our goal is to provide both concern and compassion towards the individual's physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Priests and lay ministers are on call for pastoral visits, to share Eucharist, prayer and parish news. We also strive to help find support within the community at large.
What We Do For Individuals · Offer the sacraments of Eucharist and Anointing of the Sick. · Assist families and friends in providing for the needs of their loved ones. · Personal visits by trained lay volunteers and clergy. · Affirm the integrity, talents and wisdom of the older adult. · Provide information of referrals as needed.
What We Do For the Community · Provide information or referrals on local community support programs. · Celebrate the annual Mass for Healing for the parish. · Provide educational opportunities for adult enrichment.
How We Reach Those in Need · Referrals from parish members and office staff, and personal contacts. · Neighbors, friends and family members. · Hospitals, retirement homes, foster homes, nursing homes and care providers.
Other Services Of the Pastoral Care Ministry · Offer support for individuals, families and friends during times of stress and illness as well as funerals, loss, and grief. · Provide spiritual advocacy for healing from loss and grief.
What is required to serve in this Ministry? · All lay ministers are specifically interviewed and trained adult parishioners to bring prayer, Eucharist to those in the hospital, nursing home or homebound. · This effort is coordinated and directed by the Pastoral care staff of our community. · Yearly formation and quarterly gatherings with other pastoral care workers is a standard, which we embrace. · Possess the ability to listen and be prayerful.
