Mass Captain Duties

All Mass Captains should show the greatest reverence for their ministry by their demeanor, attire and their willingness to serve. Please arrive early. This gives you enough time to prepare in the manner explained below, welcome people as they enter the church, and reverently participate in Mass when it begins. Please note that if you cannot serve at the assigned time:  Contact your back up if assigned and advise Bernadette Golson if you cannot find a substitute.

DUTIES

1.  Arrive at church at least 20 min before Mass. Schedule yourself for Bread 3.

2.  Assess the roster for ministers, lectors, altar servers and ushers

3.  Communicate with Head Usher to facilitate duties

4.  Assess with Sacristan needs for this mass: ciboria, cups, etc..

5.  Assign Ministers as they arrive, covering first those positions that are a "must":
                      Bread   2 +  4
                      Cup      1 + 2    (unless a Deacon is present)
Ask them to greet at entrances.

6. When short some ministers look through the congregation and assign ministers whenever possible.

7.  Within ten minutes before Mass and if lectors, or ushers or altar servers are missing, continue to find possible back up in the congregation.

8.  If there is a need to eliminate positions for whatever reason, start with those positions in the back of the church, and thereafter Cups 3 and 4.

9.  Have Eucharistic Ministers prepared to either be lectors or altar servers in addition to their Eucharistic Ministers slots, only if needed.

10.  As Mass Captain be prepared to assist Ushers with the collection if they are short.
     (min.= 4)

11. At all times make sure the Eucharistic Ministers are comfortable with their positions and properly trained.  Inform the Presiding Priest if changes were needed to be made.
