Men: Has the past year felt unusually stressful? Is our fast-moving, digital world overwhelming your sense of purpose and focus? Do you simply need time to reset your spiritual compass, spend time in prayer, and renew your relationship with God? These are some of the many reasons to break away to attend the annual Our Lady of the Lake Men’s Retreat. Will you join us this year? Who will you invite to attend who needs this opportunity?
Our Parish Men’s Retreat is set for Friday through Sunday, January 24-26, 2020 at the newly remodeled Mount Angel Abbey Guesthouse. We are delighted to announce that Archbishop Emeritus, John Vlazny, will be our retreat master and offer five reflection presentations during the course of the retreat days. Archbishop Vlazny is recognized for his pastoral and inspiring homilies. We will be blessed by his spiritual, scriptural and personal insights.
Time for silence, personal prayer on the peaceful abbey grounds, liturgical prayer with the monks, evening social time with other retreatants, and, of course, the delicious and plentiful Abbey food are all part of the retreat benefits.
Our retreat starts on Friday with Abbey vespers at 5:20, then dinner at 6:00 PM, and concludes with lunch on Sunday. Check in begins on Friday at 3:00 PM. We encourage men to take the day off if possible, to arrive earlier on Friday afternoon to spend time in prayer, reflection, walk the grounds and then gather for vespers and dinner. The retreat fee of $250 provides all lodging, meals and retreat materials. Retreat “fee subsidies” are available upon request.
The retreat books up quickly, so don’t delay. Are you able to “pay it forward” and offer part or full scholarships? Your generosity would be greatly appreciated. Please send requests or bequests to Tom Tomaszek, 503-636-7687.
