Confirmation Frequently Asked Questions
What grade can my son/ daughter receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
In the Archdiocese of Portland, the age for Confirmation is Sophomore year. Juniors and seniors are welcome to receive the Sacrament as well.
When does the program start?
Confirmation will begin on Sunday October 6th at 6:15 pm and in the Main Church, and then we will move down to the Parish Hall.
How often are Confirmation nights?
We typically meet two Sundays out of the month. There are service opportunities both for the parish and the community at other times/ dates TBA.
What is the model of Confirmation Preparation?
The model we have chosen is a combination of two programs; we will use the Alpha series to begin, and then transition into the program called Purpose which is a program of Lifeteen. Our desire is to create an environment which teens can discuss the deeper questions about life and feel free to express their ideas and beliefs openly and without judgement.
We know that everyone is on their own faith journey, and we want to build relationships with teens which promote genuine curiosity and an honest dialogue about the big questions about life, God and the Church.
When are the Retreats?
For the complete formation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, the youth will attend one weekend retreat which includes time prayer, leisure, and time to unplug from the chaos.
The Fall Retreat will be Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 10 (Veterans Day weekend)
What are the steps that I need to take to be on track for my Confirmation?
- Baptism Certificate- please scan/ give us a copy by Thursday October 25, 2019.
*if your son or daughter was Baptized at Our Lady of the Lake, you do not need to provide this for us
- Confirmation Saint Online Form - We will have a Confirmation night which the teens will choose a Saint as a patron
- Confirmation Sponsor Online Form- We will host a night in the Spring for Sponsors to come talk with your son/ daughter.
What do I need to do as a parent?
First of all, pray for your child throughout this process! The Lord is and will continue to work in your child’s life and the life of your family.
This is an amazing opportunity to discuss your faith journey and experience of God with them.
